This course will introduce the studen ts to the genre of German drama and novel. Classical
dramas & modern German novels will be discussed at length in terms of form, content and
historical context.

COURSE TITLE: Advanced German Skills
Credits = 6
This course will be of 6 credits, for which there will be an end semester exam (60 marks) and
viva + internal assessment (40 marks). Topics to be dealt with: Language structures , Syntax,
Semantics and Pragmatics using cases (nominative, accusative, dative, genitive), declension of
articles and adjectives, prepositions, tenses, active and passive voice, prefixes, verb
combinations, subjunctive mood, indirect speech, conjunctions, subordinate clauses, participial
construction, relative sentences, comprehension, communication skills.
The level of exercises shall increase every semester. Written and oral communication skills as
well as viva voce shall be part of the continuous evaluat ion.

COURSE TITLE : Dissertation / Project / Teaching Practicals + Viva
The candidate may opt for either a d issertation or a project or teaching practicals .
This course will consist of 80 marks. In addition there shall be Viva voce of 20 marks.
In case a candidate passes this course and fails in any other course of Semester IV, the marks
awarded for the Dissertation / Project / Teaching Practicals + Viva shall be carried forward for
the final result. The candidate need not reappear for the exam of this course.
COURSE CODE: PAGER 404
COURSE TITLE: Advanced German Skills
Credits = 6
This course will be of 6 credits, for which there will be an end semester exam (60 marks) and
viva + inte rnal assessment (40 marks).
Topics to be dealt with: Language structures, Syntax, Semantics and Pragmatics using cases
(nominative, accusative, dative, genitive), declension of articles and adjectives, prepositions,
tenses, active and passive voice, prefi xes, verb combinations, subjunctive mood, indirect speech,
conjunctions, subordinate clauses, participial construction, relative sentences.
The level of exercises shall increase every semester. Written and oral communication skills as
well as viva voce sha ll be part of the continuous evaluation.

Translation
Credits = 6
A written project of approx. 10,000 words (minimum 25 A4 typed pages) on the German
Literary History from the fall of the wall till present or on a translation topic will be undertaken
and evaluated for 100 marks (6 credits). No theory exam will be held for this course.
