Pali is one of the ancient languages of India, still internationally known
today as it contains the Teachings of the Buddha. To know the Teachings
of the Buddha in its original form one has to be familiar with the
language.
This one year certifica te course introduces the students the Teachings of
the Buddha in its original words in the Pali Language.
It has been observed that though the Teachings of the Buddha are re -
introduced in India with the revival of Buddhism, the teaching of Buddha
is learned in translation. The Course plans to teach the ‘Buddhavacana’ as
in Pali language only.
4 Objective of Course / Course Outcome
The Course is specially designed for re -introduced teaching of the
Buddha in India with the revival of Buddhism and in i ts original words in
the Pali Language
5 Eligibility :- S.S.C. Passed/H.S.C. Passed OR Certificate Course in Pali

ONE YEAR CERTIFICATE COURSE IN ‘PALI LANGUAGE AND TEACHINGS OF
THE BUDDHA’ Paper No. I and II.
[80 Marks Examination & 20 Marks assignments,40% Passing individually ]
Minimum Marks required for passing the Examination: 40% in each paper.
Necessity of the course: The Course is specially designed for re -introduced teaching of the
Buddha in India wi th the revival of Buddhism and in its orig inal wor ds in the Pali Language
Registration: Students are required to register their names for the One Year Certificate
course in Pali Language and Buddhist Culture course in the Department of Pali, University of
Mumbai, to join as the recognized student.
Course Fee : this is a self supporting course and the Fee is Rs 1500/ - per year.
Examination Fee :- As per University rule.
Capacity of the Course: Maximum 50 numbers of students.

Venue and Timings of the Lectures: The lectures will be held at the Vidyanagari Campus
of the University of Mumbai , From 2.00 pm to 6.00pm once a week.
Attendance: Attendance at the lectures is compulsory. Students, who have attended less
than 75% of the total number of lectures held, will not be admitted to the examinations.
Academ ic terms: The academic year begins in June and consists of two terms- First Term
begins in June and ends in October. Second Term begins in November and ends on 30th April
[with a winter break between 25th December and 31st December].
Examinations: At the e nd of every academic year the Examinations are conducted by the
University, Department of Pali, mostly in the month of April. Students are permitted to
answer their paper in any one of the following languages: English, Hindi, Marathi and Pali.
Assignments are to be submitted to the Department prior to the Final Examination.
