M.Phil. -Ph.D. Course Work Syllabus
10 Credits Duration: Six Months
(spread over two Semesters)

Objectives:
 To update research scholars with fundamentals of psychological research
 To equip them with rationale and applications of quantitative and qualitative enquiry
 To train them in computer application in psychological research
 To inculcate skills of academic writing and publication


Section I: Research Methodology and Statistics (04 Credits)
Subsection 1.1:
 Philosophical foundations of research
 Understanding theory : Components and connection; and theory building
 Quantitative and qualitative methods; mixed methods and triangulation
 Professional ethics in psychological research and practice

Subsection 1. 2:
 Types of research designs in quantitative research
 Types of methods/techniques in qualitative inquiry
 Sampling and techniques of data collection
 Issues of measurement in psychological research

Subsection 1. 3:
 Probability and inference
 Correlation and regression
 Multivariate methods
 Factor analysis and SEM

Section II: Review paper (03 Credits)
Each research scholar is expected to engage himself or herself in in -depth review of relevant
and recent literature in a broad area as decided up on mutually by the scholar and the research
guide; and present a paper that highlights the possible lines of inquiry of his/her research
focus with the existing literature and gaps to be filled in. The scholar, thus, is expected to
critically review the li terature in the identified or assigned area. At the end of the Semester,
the scholar is required to submit both the had copy and soft copy of such Review Paper
accompanied with plagiarism report for evaluation.

Section III: Computer Applications and Gui delines for Publication (03 Credits)
 Quantitative method: Open source and proprietary; R and SPSS
 Qualitative method: Atlas.IT, NVivo
 UGC Regulation for Plagiarism and use of Turn -It-In
