Programme: DIPLOMA II in CHINESE MANDARIN (HSK 4)

Credits: 4 Duration: 120 hrs
Objectives:
1. Imparting communication skills in Chinese Mandarin for Level 4. Teaching of higher
intermediate Chinese Mandarin language to students who have passed Level 3. A
minimum of 1200 Chinese words will be taught along with detailed information on
Chinese culture. Chinese character will be increased largely. The learners shall gain
ability to discuss on a wide range of topics and the ability to communicate fluently,
with native Chi nese speakers.
2. Facilitation of learning of intermediate Chinese Mandarin language by imparting reading, writing, understanding and speaking skills by latest teaching methods .
Rationale of Diploma II Chinese Mandarin (Level 4):

The level of proficiency a ttained at the end of this course is that of near total fluency in
spoken Chinese and the understanding of it. The Diploma II in Communicative Chinese Mandarin (Level 4), is the higher intermediate level of learning the Chinese Language
through the integrated communicative approach. The required intense interaction with the methodologies, tools and techniques of teaching, deployed as in the teaching of various languages, i ncluding foreign languages make this the comfort level in the learning of the
Chinese language. Mandarin Chinese now develops into a comfortably spoken and understood second, third or foreign language .

Programme Description:
The programme shall enable t he learners to communicate in Chinese at a normal level in their
daily, academic and professional lives. The learners will be able to recognize more characters and excel in writing. Building on the base of Level 3, the learner will learn clear expression,
emphasizing, exclamation, degree, frequency, to remind, comfort, encourage and express emotions etc with a certain level of fluency. They will develop communication skills of speaking, reading, listening and understanding for daily routine use as well as a fluency in
social interaction, even with native Chinese speakers. The learners shall possess the ability to further their Chinese Mandarin language studies by going into advanced level courses.

Note: The Confucius Institute may also become the exam centre for HSK Hanban soon. In
such an event, HSK Levels 1 -6 and HSKK Levels 1- 3 examinations will be offered by the
Institute and the additional fees will be as below:
