Programme: SHORT TERM CERTIFICATE I in CHINESE MANDARIN (HSK 1)

Credits: 2 Duration: 48 hrs
Objectives:
1. Imparting communication skills in Chinese Mandarin for Level 1. Teaching of basic
Chinese Mandarin language to non-native speakers. A minimum of 150 Chinese
words will be taught along with basic information on Chinese culture. The learners
shall learn to greet and to introduce themse lves in Chinese Mandarin, in the Chinese
way.
2. Facilitation of learning of basic Chinese Mandarin language by imparting reading &
writing phonetic Pinyin and Mandarin speaking & understanding skills by latest
teaching methods.

Rationale of the Short Term Certificate I Chinese Mandarin (Level 1):

Chinese Mandarin needs a structured learning approach. The Short Term Certificate I
Chinese Mandarin (Level 1) ensures a properly structured introduction to the Chinese
language and the laying of a basic foundation for the active and quick learning of the same.
The process of this course, in all its levels, is layered with intense interaction with the
methodologies, tools and techniques of intuitive learning and teaching, deployed in the
teaching of various languages, including foreign languages. This will make Chinese Mandarin potentially viable as a second, third or foreign language.

Programme Description:

The programme shall enable learners to understand and communicate with sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of common immediate relevance, for instance
greeting, farewell, basic personal interaction, family information, shopping, simple requests
in studying and working. Acquiring communication skills of speaking, reading, listening and
understanding, for basic needs.

R_________ Fees: Tuition fees: Rs. 12000/-
Exam fees: Rs. 360/- (to be paid at the time of admission)
R_________ Standard of Passing: 120 marks out of 200
R_________ Scheme of Syllabus and Evaluation
R_________ Scheme of examination: 200 marks total:
100 marks: Listening
100 marks: Reading


Pattern of the exam paper: As per model paper of Hanban.
External Candidates with equivalent prerequisite competence shall be permitted to appear for
the Short term Certificate I Chinese Mandarin (Level 1) by paying a fees of Rs. 6000/-

Note: The Confucius Institute may also become the exam centre fo r HSK Hanban soon. In
such an event, HSK Levels 1-6 and HSKK Levels 1-3 examinations will be offered by the Institute and the additional fees will be as below:
