New ordinances 6713 & 6714 relating to the Diploma in Bansuri
(i) Necessity of starting the course: The university of Mumbai is likely to sign MoU with
Vrindavan Gurukul, Mumbai. VrundavanGurukul is a premier institution imparting
Bansuri training, founded by Padmavibhushan Pt. HariprasadChourasia. The said
course would be run by the VrundavanGurukul as a part of MoU. There are very few
University’s in India that provide courses in Bansuri Training. He nce this course would
be beneficial to the students who are willing to pursue the career in Bansuri.
(ii) Whether UGC has recommended to start said courses : UGC encourages the
incorporation of skill oriented and value added, add on courses in colleges/Universities to be
opted by students as a parallel sub discipline while pursuing their deg ree level education.
(iii) Whether is course is commenced from 2019 -20? : No, it is proposed to be
commenced form 2022 -23
(iv) Whether the course started are self -finan ced, whether the adequate no. of eligible
permanent faculties are available?: The course would be conducted by
VrundavanGurukul and would be self financed.
(v) Give the details regarding the duration of this course. Can it be compressed? : The
duration of the course is Two Years (four Terms). It cannot be further compressed.
(vi) Intake capacity of the course and no. of admission given in the current academic
year (2019 -20) : The proposed course is to be instituted from the academic year
2022 -23. The proposed intake capacity is 25. No students were admitted in 2019 -20 as
course is yet to be instituted.
(vii) Opportunity of Employability available after undertaking this course: The students
can work as freelance musicians.

Preamble:
The BOS in Hindustani Music takes great pleasure in instituting its first ever
courses in Bansuri (Flute) i.e. Pre -Diploma and Diploma Course in Bansuri. The
Department of Music currently conducts Diploma course in Hindustani Classical
Vocal , Tabla, Sitar and Sugam Sangeet . Institution of these courses in Bansuri are
BOS’s step towards creating better Music Ecosystem in Mumbai and Maharashtra
Title of the course – Diplo ma in Bansuri
Specialisations – Hindustani ShastriyaVadan – Swaravadya (Bansuri)
Objectives of the DIPLOMA in BANSURI
1. To learn Basic techniques of playing Bansuri and Riyaz
2. To learn basic concepts of Indian Music like Swar, rhythm, Bandish, Raga,
Tala etc
3. To Study the concept of Raga elaboration in detail .
4. To study the concept of Tala and its exploration in detail.
5. To introduce students to the semi -classical music played on Bansuri .
6. To introduce students to Musicology and History of Hindustani Music.
Learning Outcomes of the DIPLOMA in BANSURI
After the competition of the course, a student would be able to
1. To compare the similar Ragas in the syllabus .
2. To understand concept of Raga and its elaboration in detail .
3. To understand the Tala concept and different rhythmic patterns in detail .
4. To perform a raag with confidence for 20 minutes .
5. To comprehend the theory and science behind Hindustani Music and its
performance.

Eligibility: A candidate for being eligible for admission to the Diploma in Music,
must have passed the H.S.C. (Std. XII) examination conducted by the Maharashtra
State board of Secondary education or an examination of another University or
body recognised as equivalent thereto. The candidate’s admission to the course
will be subject to his passing an audition test conducted by the Head of the
Institute.
Duration : The duration of the Diploma course in Music is of two years
i.e. four academic terms .

• To pass in Practical Papers a student must earn 50% marks
in each practical paper. To pass in theory papers, a student must

• Unsuccessful candidate is allowed to reappear directly
without taking re -admission and his internal assessment marks
shall be carried forward if he has passed the internal assessment.
