Pali language contains all the Teachings of the Buddha. Ancient India is
predominantly called Buddhist India. Unfortunately the Buddhist culture
which was prevalent in ancient India was lost with the loss of Buddhism
in India.
With the revival of Buddhism in I ndia, there is a great need for the
understanding of Buddhism from cultural point of view.
This one year certificate course in Pali language and Buddhist culture’
aims to re -introduce the rich and varied Buddhist culture prevalent in
ancient India still pr eserved in the Pali language and literature.

The Course is specially designed to re -introduce the rich and varied
Buddhist culture prevalent in ancient India still preserved in the Pali
language and literature.

ONE YEAR CERTIFICATE COURSE IN ‘PALI LANGUAGE AND BUDDHIST
CULTURE’
Paper No. I and II.
[80 Marks Examination & 20 Marks assignments,40% Passing individually ]
Minimum Marks required for passing the Examination : 40% in each paper.
Necessity of the course: The Course is specially designed to re-introduce the rich and varied
Buddhist culture prevalent in ancient India still preserved in the Pali language and literature.

Registration: Students are required to register their names for the One Year Certificate
course in Pali Language and Buddhist Culture course in the Department of Pali, University of
Mumbai, to join as the recognized student.
Course Fee: this is a self supporting course and the Fee is Rs 1500/ - per year.
Examination Fee:- As per university rule.
Capacity of the Course: Maximum 50 numbers of students.

Venue and Timings of the Lectures: The lectures will be held at the Vidyanagari Campus
of the University of Mumbai , From 2.00 pm to 6.00pm once a week .
Attendance: Attendance at the lectures is compulsory. Students, who have attended less
than 75% of the total number of lectures held, will not be admitted to the examinations.
Academic terms: The academic year begins in June and consists of two terms- First Term
begins in June and ends in October. Second Term begins in November and ends on 30th April
[with a winter break between 25th December and 31st December].
Examinations: At the end of eve ry academic year the Examinations are conducted by the
University, Department of Pali, mostly in the month of April. Students are permitted to
answer their paper in any one of the following languages: English, Hindi, Marathi and Pali.
Assignments are to b e submitted to the Department prior to the Final Examination.
